The Taste of Apricots
The Taste of Apricots Chapter One It was the last revelation that sent Lola back to her desk sobbing, looking for that bar of chocolate she kept in her laptop bag. It wasn’t the fact that “Meals with Merlin” was ending, so the host could go on a book tour. That was bad enough, but not nearly as disastrous as what she’d found out about her favorite breakfast. Dyson, Dad, Dust, and Design - When UCD Fails
So what happens when your target buyer is NOT your target user? Today I had a chance to find out (this is starting to sound like one of those FML rants). Act I They saw Engineer Dad and Lazy Bum Brother coming from a mile away. Six Hundred bucks for a vacuum cleaner; only the dynamic duo of dad and son with a combined mental age of 16 - let loose in an electronics store with a credit card -...

I predict a DDoS
geraint: Oh dear.It seems AT&T (for whatever reason) have decided to block some of 4chans more…erm… unsavory areas. On the one hand, this is a shocking breach of net neutrality. On the other, its like walking up to the drunkest nutter in the bar and slapping them in the face. This is unlikely to end well for anyone…

Electric Cars & Inflection Points
What a rush in electric car news last week. When things pile up in a certain area, it could be a trend, but it could also be an inflection point. Let’s watch this electric car meme for a few months as an example. Spotting a trend can be useful in predicting, because you can at least know where to throw your advertising budget for the next few days. However, this could turn out to be an...

Clay Shirky is pretty good. →
Clay Shirky is pretty good at analysing current trends. He’s also published books and gives lots of speeches so he’s easy to cite. One of the quirks of predicting is to have a source to cite, it keeps you from coming off as a soothsayer and adds a sense of gravitas to your predictions. I often cite Clay.
